Course architecture
Communicating is first and foremost about interacting: with colleagues, teams and managers. Being able to identify your communication style and that of others will have an impact on your deliverables (in the broadest sense) and possibly on the business objectives (of your department or even the organization).
Become aware of the elements of communication.
- Sender and receiver - predispositions and influencing factors
- Listening - hearing and understanding through filters
- Media - the different modes of human communication
- Feedback - reception, understanding, interaction
Evaluate our position in this context.
Establish corrective measures.
Depending on your nature you communicate in a certain way. Your communication style says a lot about you... A better knowledge of yourself allows you to refine your communication style.
Define what kind of communicator you are to maximize the chances of getting your ideas across and strengthen your credibility.
- Analytical (how), Direct (what), Amiable (who), Expressive (why): characteristics, modes of interaction, approaches to be favored according to the style of your interlocutor and yours.
- Knowing yourself better to increase your effectiveness and limit your biases.
Rethinking active listening: beyond the fashionable effect, a relevant tool when you know how to use it and which goes beyond the verbal.
- Theoretical approach, Practical principles, Confusion and errors to avoid
- Levels of listening, from detachment to involvement
- Listening attitudes, from influence to the joint development of a solution
- Filters that hinder communication
- Reformulating to validate and reassure
- When not to use active listening
Questioning rather than assuming
Avoiding bias, interpretations and assumptions: the question as a tool for understanding.
- Closed/open, a question of context and personality
- Oriented
- Formulate your questioning to ensure a result
To leave no room for feedback is to order. So how to encourage and take advantage of a feedback loop, while taking into account the hierarchical position of the two stakeholders.
Feedback on form:
- Implicit feedback or the expression of the unconscious through non-verbal and paraverbal
- Explicit feedback or conscious and articulated expression, written or oral (descriptive, experiential or inferential)
- Positive, often overlooked
- Corrective, less easy to give
Since part of communicating with others is through language, there are some techniques that need to be used.
- The power of "I
- The art of saying "no
Conflict is a necessary evil at home and in the office to bring about change. Conflict means conflict resolution.
- Collaborate - there are often many who are right
- Clarify - focus on needs and goals
- Understand - the other person's point of view has a place
- Break down - for easier resolution in stages
- Balance - everyone has to get something out of it
Limit spontaneity to focus on relevance.
- Objective, material, state of the art, agenda, style, context...
